Christmas Update!

We are counting our blessings over the last year and praying for guidance through the new year. The Christmas tour that began at Thanksgiving was the longest time in 21 years that William Lee and I had ever spent apart. Solomon has never experienced the separation from his Dad. Talking on a video phone through the computer really helped make the time pass, but we were all really glad to be together again when we met up in Mississippi for the last show.

Solomon and I kept ourselves busy with his schedule. As a member of the Nashville Suzuki Players, he performed for two “Breakfast with Santa” concerts. One at Opry Mills Mall and one at the mall in Lebanon, TN. He also performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame. William was so disappointed that he missed that performance. I was so proud of him. Solomon has been taking violin since he was 2 years old. As you know, he is 6 ½ now. He also had many Christmas parties to go to including church and dance class.

The Christmas whirlwind began when we arrived home the afternoon of Dec. 23rd. We began preparing for our Golden Brunch at our home on Christmas Eve. What a great time! Chris and Kim and their children, Elizabeth, Rebekah and Elijah came at around 10:00am, followed by Craig’s kids, Kaitlyn and Marlin. Their mother, Susan came with them as well as Kaitlyn’s boyfriend, Wayne.

After a bountiful brunch, Rebekah read the story of Christ’s birth out of the book of Luke, a family tradition. This was her first year to do so. We always ask the youngest reader to read the Bible story before we open the presents. Soon after, the wrapping paper flew like Rudolph across the room as everyone opened the gifts. Later that night, we travel to my brother’s house and gathered with the Halls. What a great time that entire day. A day to gather with family and friends.

Solomon slept in on Christmas morning. I had to keep reminding him that it was Christmas morning and that presents were under the tree to get him out of bed. He was so excited about getting a new X-Box game. William and I used that day as a day of rest. Susan, Kaitlyn, Wayne and Marlin came over and stayed with us. We ended the day with a visit from our good friends, TG Sheppard and his wife, Kelly Lang.

Early the next day we traveled to Brewton, Alabama to visit William’s 90 year old mother, Ruth. She is looking and doing so good. I had to remind her on a number of occasions to use her walker to steady herself. Spending time with her was our best present. She wanted us to make sure that we thank all who has sent a card or said a prayer. She is humbled by all the out pouring of love and concern. Chris invited all the Golden relatives over to Gaggie’s for dinner and music. Many of them brought their instruments. Music was played and sung all night.

We are now home and packing for vacation. One that William has truly earned and needs. We hope that all of you have had a great Christmas season. May the new year bring all of you a new start, a new outlook and a new reason to celebrate life.

Love,

The Goldens
